“'Your son has features that are consistent with Down syndrome.' I’ll never forget our pediatrician delivering that statement to us just a few hours after the birth of our first son, Noah. It was a phrase we never saw coming. Noah being born with Down syndrome was a total surprise to us, but not to God.

As we near seven years on this journey of raising a child with Down syndrome, I can honestly say that Noah is one of the best things that has ever happened to us. There are no words to describe the joy that Noah brings our family, and the joy it is for us to be his parents.

We know that many people today 'choose' not to have a child like Noah, but we want you all to know that the journey isn’t as scary as you think. I hope by sharing our story with the world, we take away some of the fear that you may have. When you take away fear, you give people the courage to walk forward in hope, and that’s what we hope our story does for you: give you hope.

People like Noah are created in the image of God (Psalm 139) and have a purpose in this world. All life is valuable. Noah being born with Down syndrome doesn’t make his life any less valuable than yours or mine. Noah isn’t sick, nor does he need anyone to 'pray his Down syndrome away.' What he (and all people like him) need is for you to love, value, and respect him. Not just out of the womb, but in it. Please don’t allow your fear to take away his or her choice of life.

If we were writing our own story, this would not have been the story we would have written. I’m thankful that we don’t write our story, God does. And He writes way better stories for our life than we ever could.

No matter where you are today, you can trust God with your story.

We love you Noah, and we #StandForLife for you, and for all people like you!"
